journey of Perfumery
Today, we often take for granted
the many wonderful smells that surround us. Aromatic essential
oils in potpourri and candles, the aroma of fresh herbs
embedded in a gourmet meal, or in bath and body products.
But thousands of years ago the "smelling salons" of ancient
Egypt were the center of culture.
People gathered in these salons
to discuss cultural happenings, drink fine beverages, and
sample new perfumes hand-created by alchemists. These salons
were the social Mecca's of the Era. Originally, fragrances
were created for the individual, rather than for the masses.This
makes perfect sense because each person is different in
terms of tastes, preferences and body chemistry. No fragrance
could possibly smell the same on each person, so why would
anyone want a fragrance that was not specifically designed
for their individual style?
As society has become more
technologically advanced, fragrances have been modernized
and duplicated on a mass scale. But little by little, the
art of custom perfumery is being revived. Aambrosia works
with perfumer Kathleen Dreier, whose goal is to return to
the origins of fragrance design and create unique fragrances
for individuals.
"We work with the highest
quality essential and perfume oils," says Dreier. "Our
intention is to be of service to you, .to create a fragrance
that resonates with who you are and what you want to communicate
outwardly to others." Because they are made with all-natural
essential oils, Dreier's custom perfumes can positively
enhance self-image or uplift sour moods. In the last decade,
she has created fragrances for people based on profession,
hobbies, astrological sign, health concerns and life transitional
phases. Drier has designed fragrances for women, men, children
and couples using this ancient intuitive technique since
1991.
